The goal of my artwork is to use contrast, chiaroscuro and proportion to convey realism. For inspiration I looked at renaissance art. I was fascinated by the accuracy in the hands they painted and how they studied the anatomy to achieve a realistic hand. I wanted to challenge myself with this piece by trying a new medium (conté) and attempting to share someone's story. Hands show hard work and tell you about one's life. A hand with wrinkles, distinct veins and think skin show much a person has been through in their lifetime. I decided to sketch hands and magnify the image to focus on the story the hands are telling.
