After two years under the mandates and pressures of COVID-19 the Nantyr Athletic department is back in full swing. The sports teams in the fall started slow, but now that the Canadian winter is gone (sort of), the teams are back and the student body couldn't be more excited. Let’s go around and ask what the athletic department thinks of the big return.

During the online quadmesters, the students who had participated in school sports were of course not able to participate. Now that they are back for the first time in 2 years, it's easy to see how the students would be excited.

We interviewed Aiden Reeves, a Nantyr student athlete who is currently on track to make the baseball team. We asked him how he felt that sports are back on at Nantyr, “ I’m really excited to be playing baseball again at Nantyr’“ I’m gonna win them all”!.

The students are definitely excited to be back for the spring sports season. There is Rugby, Track & Field, Ultimate Frisbee, Girls Varsity Soccer, and Baseball, and many students are out there practicing and working hard to achieve their goals.

Students did not participate in sports for a long time, but the coaches were also affected. We asked Coach Williamson about how he felt that sports were back, “I love it…Happy to see that the kids can be engaged again and having fun”.

Mr. Williamson coaches the junior boys rugby team alongside Mr. Tutty.

The varsity girls rugby team has gone undefeated this year and we had to ask how Mrs. Dallimore how she felt. “So happy”, she was so happy she said it 3 times!

School sports have allowed students to have fun, make friends, participate in extracurricular activities, and be a part of a team. Some students rely on sports to improve their lives and even make them better people.

Around the school, all the athletes are excited as ever to be out playing sports. The coaches are happy to be out there and working with the students and it's wonderful to see that sports are back in full swing.
